Core Barrels are utilized in situations where regular augers are not as efficient or alongside tapered rock augers for extreme drilling in hard rock. The Core Barrel is constructed with a narrow cutting edge to increase the speed of penetration by reducing the amount of surface area that needs to be cut and cleared.
